Community Needs

From our 2024-2026 Community Needs Assessment, 40% of low-income survey respondents reported they are worse off now as compared to before the pandemic. The top unmet needs of low-income individuals and families living on the South Shore are:

  • inability to pay for heat and utilities
  • affordable housing
  • access to affordable and nutritious food


Additional needs identified by low-income people are:

  • transportation
  • assistance with financial emergencies
  • early education and childcare
